Understanding Medicare

Eligibility, costs, coverage, enrollment—there is a lot to learn for new and established Medicare beneficiaries before they make choices about their plan for the next year. Each part of Medicare has a different out-of-pocket cost and the standard Medicare coverage is not enough for someone who wears glasses, goes to the dentist or uses hearing aids.

Develop a healthy knowledge of the costs and coverage options of Medicare before you compare your options, so you know what to look for!

Comparing Medicare Plans

Almost half of Medicare beneficiaries sign up for Medicare Advantage plans. The rest have Part A and Part B through Original Medicare, and some have Part D Prescription Drug Plans along with a Medicare Supplement plan in addition to Original Medicare.

When it’s time to enroll in Medicare coverage, beneficiaries need to choose the combination of coverage that makes the most sense based on their coverage area, budget and anticipated healthcare costs.

Enrolling in Medicare

The Medicare enrollment process is very structured. After a beneficiary’s initial enrollment period, they can take advantage of the Annual Election Period to renew their contracts, switch plans, or drop their coverage. Sometimes people get a special enrollment period to sign up for coverage; and this commonly happens when they lose coverage or move out of their plan’s coverage area.

Selecting the right Medicare plan can be challenging. Schedule an appointment with the Fortress Health team today to get a free consultation, learn more about the plan comparison process, and how we can help you enroll in the best available Medicare plan for your needs. Plan offerings may include plans designed for people on both Medicare and Medicaid, known as dual-eligible, as well as, plans tailored for Veterans.
